How to Use a Dehydrated Food Recipe
Jake Jamer

The usage of the dehydrated food recipe is really a tempting lure. This is because dried food
stays good so much longer than the fresh food and it is easy to stock them up. But there are
certain things you need to remember when using a dehydrated food recipe, or when using
dehydrated food in any recipe. If you keep these instructions in mind and follow, you'll
have a much better chance of turning out a perfect dish that tastes fresh, every time.

Dehydrated food is like a regular food, but with the water content taken out. All foods are
made up of a certain percentage of water. We remove water from the food mainly to retain
the same amount of flavor and the same properties get packed but in a smaller package.
This means that you'll need less dried food than you would to make the same recipe using
fresh or frozen or canned foods. Using a dehydrated food recipe is much simpler and easier,
this is because the recipe will have already allowed for the difference in the two. If,
however, you wish to use dried foods in a recipe that calls for fresh, you'll have to make the
adjustments yourself.

The second tip also relates to the first one. The tip is the foods lose about one third to one
half of their bulk when they are dried, depending on the kind of food. Something like meat
may lose only a third, leaves, such as herbs, will lose up to half. This means that for meat,
you would use a third less, or to taste, and for herbs or other dried leaves, use only half. So
put less than what you think and this is better than to put more which can't be taken out.

The basic thing of this tip is use less salt in the recipe. So whenever you are to cook a
dehydrated food recipe, never ever add salt to the recipe while cooking and always taste
before adding salt to the dish. The main reason is dehydrated foods slurp up salt along with
water, and you end up using more and tasting less.

These are only few things to keep in mind when working with a dehydrated food recipe.
Even though these are only three tips, they are very powerful and helpful in the cooking of
dehydrated food recipe. And if you follow these tips it's really hard to go wrong.
